"Washi" (Maharam, 2022) continues Hella Jongerius exploration of colour, material, and narrative in textile form. Drawing on motifs from her longstanding archive. Building on her work with ceramic glazes, "Washi" transposes layers of translucent colour into woven form, with Jongerius’s hand-cut collages of coloured film serving as the textile base. True to Jongerius’s multilayered oeuvre, the piece reflects a kaleidoscopic archive of past experiments, materials, and motifs. The design extends the living archive, giving familiar dessins and layered colour a new beginning.
