Born 24.05.1907, New York City, USA. Died 31.01.1993, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. 1909 The Girard family moves from New York to Florence, Italy. 1917–1924 Attends the Bedford Modern School, an English boarding school north of London. 1924–1929 Studies at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. 1932–1937 Interior Designer in New York City. 1936 Marries Susan Needham (born 1910). 1937 Moves to Detroit. From 1945 Opens his own design store in Grosse Pointe, Michigan; head designer at radio manufacturer Detrola, Detroit. 1949 Organizes the exhibition For Modern Living at the Detroit Institute of Art. From 1951 Director of the new Textiles Division at the furniture manufacturer Herman Miller; in the period from 1952 to 1973, Girard will create more than 300 textile designs for Herman Miller. 1953 Moves to Santa Fe, New Mexico. 1954–1957 Interior design of the Miller House in Columbus, Indiana. 1955 Commences work for the Georg Jensen company.  Show more information
