Born 2 July 1963 Boxtel, the Netherlands. 1985–88 Studies 3D Design at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Arnhem, the Netherlands. 1988 Designs the lamp Set Up Shades (included in the Droog Collection in 1993). 1990–92 Designer with Landmark Design & Consult, Rotterdam. 1992 Co-founds WAACS Design, Rotterdam. 1995 Establishes his own design studio, Wanders Wonders, Amsterdam. 1995/96 Designs the Knotted Chair for Droog in connection with the Dry Tech Project; chair is awarded the Kho Liang Ie Prize (1996). 1996 Participates in Thresholds: Contemporary Design from the Netherlands, Museum of Modern Art, New York. 1999 Solo exhibition Wanders Wonders, Museum het Kruithuis, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. 2000 First important interior design: VIP Room at the Dutch Pavilion, World’s Fair in Hanover, Germany. 2001 Establishes Marcel Wanders Studio, Amsterdam; co-founder and art director, Moooi, Amsterdam. 2005 Participates in Touch Me, Victoria and Albert Museum, London. 2007 Presents Personal Editions comprising limited edition designs and unique objects at the Fuori Salone during Milan Furniture Fair. 2008 Becomes partner in Yoo, the project development company of Philippe Starck and John Hitchcock; designs the interior of Mondrian South Beach Hotel, Miami, Florida. 2009 Solo exhibition Daydreams, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania. 2012 Co-owner and interior designer of the Andaz Hotel, Amsterdam. 2014 Solo exhibition Marcel Wanders: Pinned Up. 25 Years of Design, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. 2015 Opening of the Eurasian Garden in the Oita Prefectural Art Museum, Oita, Japan.
