Born 8 November 1939, La Spezia, Italy. 1958–63 Studies architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) and design at the Istituto Superiore di Disegno Industriale, both in Venice. 1959-63 Takes part in Gruppo N in Padua, a collective of experimental artists dedicated to kinetic art and ‘programmed research’. 1969 Designs UP self-inflating furniture series for C&B Italia, including the iconic UP 5_6 lounge chair. 1970/71 Designs Moloch floor lamp for Bracciodiferro (part of Cassina). 1972 Participates in the seminal exhibition Italy: The New Domestic Landscape at MoMA, New York. 1975-2003 Teaches at Institut d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme, in Strasbourg, France. 1980 Tramonto a New York sofa, Dalila chairs, and Sansone table for Cassina. 1982 Designs Pratt Chair. 1983 Moves to New York City. 1985–87 Teaches at Cooper Union, New York. 1986 Cannaregio sofa and Feltri lounge chair for Cassina. 1988 Torre Pluralista, São Paulo, Brazil; Hubin house in Gordes, France. 1989 Organic Building in Osaka, Japan. 1994 Founds the company Fish Design, based in Milan and New York. Until 1995 Wide-ranging work as an architect, interior designer, furniture designer and product designer; numerous lecturing assignments. 1996 Gaetano Pesce: Le temps des questions exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. 2005 Retrospective exhibitions at the Triennale Design Museum, Milan, and at the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein; La Michetta sofa for Meritalia. 2010 Sessantuna tables for Cassina; L’Abbraccio collection for Le Fablier. 2014 Gaetano Pesce.
